Anita Rachvelishvili - Il Canto è la mia Vita!

On December 7, 2009 Georgian mezzo soprano Anita Rachvelishvili starred in the title role of the new production of Carmen which opened the 2009/2010 season of the Teatro alla Scala. Partnered by Jonas Kaufmann as Don José and conducted by Daniel Barenboim, this performance was the young artist’s first leading role. The performance was telecast throughout Europe and afterwards it was clear that a major new star had been born.

She went on to make her North American debut for the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, again as Carmen and subsequently made her German stage debut in the same role at the Staatsoper Berlin.
She also made her debut at the Teatro Massimo as Fenena in Nabucco.


In the summer of 2010 she made her debut in the Arena di Verona’s production of Carmen.
She also sang Verdi's Requiem in Helsinki.



In January 2011 she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera House and in February at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in Carmen. 

In April 2011 she sang her first recital in her hometown Tbilisi with the National Symphonic Orchestra and Choir. 


On 22 May 2011 she made her debut at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in "Samson et Dalila" as Dalila.
She sang Verdi's Messa Di Requiem at the Bergen Summer Festival in June 2011.


In June 2011- La Scala, "Italiana in Algeri" as Isabella.


In July 2011 - Peralada Festival, Orfeo ed Euridice, a new production with Carlos Padrissa and La Fura Dels Baus. As Orfeo.


She made her debut with Seattle Opera, San Francisco Opera and at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as Carmen.
In November 2011 she made her debut in "Adriana Lecouvreur" in New York's Carnegie Hall as the Princess of Bouillon, with Angela Gheorghiu, Jonas Kaufmann and Ambrogio Maestri.



Anita Rachelisvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia in 1984. She first studied piano at the M. Machavariani School and then voice at the V. Sarajshvili Conservatory with Maestra Manana Egadze. 
In 2005 she received a study grant from the President of Georgia, M. Saakashvili and in 2007 she won the Paata Burchuladze Scholarship Award. 
She appeared at the Conservatory as Maddalena in Rigoletto and as Olga in Eugene Onegin. From 2006 to 2007 she was a member of the Tbilisi Opera House and in 2007 she won Second Prize in the Georgian International Voice Competition.
In 2007 she was accepted as a member of the Young Artists Program of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan where she appeared in supporting roles in a production of Il Trittico, conducted by Riccardo Chailly and in Pizzetti’s L’Assassino della Cattedrale under Donato Renzetti.
Other roles in her developing repertoire include Isabella in L’Italiana in Algeri, Marina in Boris Godunov, Konchakovna in Prince Igor, Charlotte in Werther, Orfeo in Orfeo and Euridice, Dulcinée in Don Quichotte, Lyubasha in The Tsar's Bride, Amneris in Aida, Cléopatre in Cléopatre of Massenet.

She is studying with Maestro David Holst, vocal coach.
